My Thoughts

I liked this book! The main character, Theo, has a big fascination for the world of law. He's an intelligent kid and at thirteen years old, he seems to know a lot about law and many people come to him for legal advice. Sure they aren't very big problems, but they're all good practice for his future career. On a few occasions, he even has the chance to appear in Animal Court.

The judge smiled as he remembered Theo's first appearance in his courtroom. He had been one frightened boy as he frantically worked to rescue a runaway mutt, one that he took home and named Judge.
In the beginning of the book, Theo explains how a trial works to his Government class for their field trip the next day. I found the explanation helpful and it helped me visualize the courtroom and how it operates better.

There's a trial in town that has everyone's attention

There's a murder trial for Mr. Duffy who is accused of murdering his wife, Mrs.Duffy. Though the accused seemed guilty to most people, Mr. Duffy is presumed innocent. No evidence, no witness, no testimony, nothing. That is until someone comes to Theo for his legal advice. All of a sudden, Theo's in the middle of it all...

Girls, murder trials, secret witnesses. Life was suddenly very complicated.

I recommend it.

Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4)

It's a good, solid four. I liked seeing the trial in action. Not only that but also how Theo contributed to the trial. One thing I thought the author could have done was to write it in first-person point of view. I would have liked to know what was going through Theo's head but that's just my opinion.

Don't you want to find out why or what Theo's in the middle of? I can't wait to see what happens in the next book, happy reading!
