CeCe Ross is kind of a big deal. She and her girlfriend, Silvie, are social media influencers with zillions of fans and followers, known for their cute outfits and being #relationshipgoals.

So when Silvie breaks up with her, CeCe is devastated. She's lost her first love, and now she can't help but wonder if she'll lose her followers as well.

Things get even messier when CeCe meets Josh, a new boy in town who is very much Not Online. CeCe isn't surprised to be falling for a guy; she's always known she's bi. And Josh is sweet and smart and has excellent taste in donuts... but he has no idea that CeCe is internet-famous. And CeCe sort of wants to keep it that way.

But when CeCe's secrets catch up to her, she finds herself in the middle of an online storm, where she'll have to confront the blurriness of public vs. private life, and figure out what it really means to speak her truth.

My Thoughts

**Thank you so much to Scholastic Books and TBR and Beyond Tours for sending me an Advanced Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest review as part of the blog tour!**

CeCe, a junior in high school, is known for having lots of followers on social media along with her girlfriend, Silvie. They both are influencers known to be together and for speaking up about things they believe in. They even have their own hashtag, #Cevie.

I don't care who you are or how well-intentioned you are—if you do or say something without thinking it through or doing the appropriate research, and that thing harms someone else, or a whole group of people, you should not be given a pass. We all need to be held responsible for our actions.

When Silvie tells CeCe that she wants to break up, CeCe is devastated and surprised. After the breakup, CeCe isn't looking for someone else but then Josh shows up. He has little to do with the internet, so CeCe is determined to keep her online life away and hidden.

This comfort between us, like we've somehow always known each other, is nice. Okay, it's amazing. But it's also horrible inconvenient, because it's so easy to just say things like that, all genuine and exposed. And then the lines go blurry, and then. . . . what?

Secrets, of course, can't stay hidden forever. What happens when her online life starts to involve Josh?

If you decide to share your story, or it gets shared against your will, there are people who aren't going to understand. And that's okay. It's not your job to change them, or change for them. I'm not saying to not care what other people think—of course we care what other people think. But maybe we should put more weight on what the people who love us think.

Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4)

The author did a good job with the characters. I especially liked Josh because of his love for music. His love for violin is like mine for piano, but if only I had more time to play. The presence of CeCe's mom was also important because it was nice to see support from her mom even though it was the complete opposite with her dad.

Overall, I had lots of fun reading this book! It wasn't very long and the perfect length for my hectic week. I will definitely check out other books by this author.

About the Author

Jessica Verdi is an author of books for kids and teens about identity, family, acceptance, and love.

Though she’s always been a bookworm (her childhood was basically defined by the philosophy that working your way through giant stacks of library books is far superior to playing outside), she remained convinced throughout high school and college that theatre and music were meant to be her creative outlets. After nearly ten years in the NYC theatre world, she got an idea for a novel. While that first attempt at a “book” will never see the light of day—nope, don’t ask—it was the book that started her love affair with writing. Now she can’t imagine doing anything else.

Jess received her MFA in Writing for Children from The New School and is a freelance editor of romance and women’s fiction. She lives in New York with her family.
