What if America had a royal family?

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America's first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling.

Nobody cares about the spare except when she's breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn't care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her.

And then there's Samantha's twin, Prince Jefferson. If he'd been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

My Thoughts

It's told from four different perspectives: Beatrice (future queen), Samantha (Beatrice's younger sister and Jefferson's twin), Nina (Samantha's best friend), and Daphne (Jefferson's ex-girlfriend).

Ever since George Washington won the Revolutionary War and was crowned king, the Washingtons have ruled over America since. After more than two hundred years, the Washingtons' rule still stands strong.

Long ago, monarchies existed so that the people could serve the monarch, Now the monarch must serve the people. Remember that it is an honor and a privilege to be a Washington and devote your life to this nation.

After some changes to the laws, Beatrice becomes the first heir as queen to the royal throne. For the first time in history, the queen will be looking for a king to marry instead of the opposite way around.

It wasn't as bad as it had been a hundred years ago, when the marriage of the king was a matter of public policy rather than a matter of the heart. At least she wouldn't have to get married to seal a political treaty.

Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4)

When I first went into the book, I expected to see characters that were stuck-up because they were high in position but that was not the case. Each character had their struggles, and you can easily differentiate between the four characters and their voices.

Although there wasn't a very clear plot in the story, all the things that happened kept me on my toes. I was very eager to find out what would happen next to the characters.

Overall, American Royals was an amazing book filled with adventures, royal gossip, and dramatic scenes that I loved. Of course, I have a soft spot for royalty and princesses so this book made a great read.
