Double double, twins spell trouble…

Hunter and Mercy Goode are twin witches, direct descendants of the founder of their town of Goodeville. As their ancestors have done before them, it is now time for the twins to learn what it means to be Gatekeepers–the protectors of the Gates to different underworlds, ancient portals between their world and realms where mythology rules and nightmares come to life.

When their mother becomes the first victim in a string of murders, the devastated sisters vow to avenge her death. But it will take more than magic to rein in the ancient mythological monsters who’ve infected their peaceful town.

Now Hunter and Mercy must come together and accept their destiny or risk being separated for good.

My Thoughts

Sisters Hunter and Mercy Goode are direct descendants of their town's original founder. Their mother, Abigail, and those before have all done their job protecting the gates between their world and the others.

So, as Sarah did all those generations ago, we also do. Our intention for tonight has not changed.

On the night of their sixteenth birthday, the sisters go to perform the regular ritual. However, strange events happen, something goes really wrong, and Abigail ends up dead. But, the girls don't have much time to grieve because she's not the only one dead. Soon more and more people are found dead in strange conditions.

That was one of the strange things about grief. How it turned some into weights and reduced others to the molted skin of the person they’d been.

Star Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3)

I'm not sure how I feel. The execution was mediocre, just average, but I really the idea the book was based on. To set the story during the Salem witch trials was creative so I appreciated that.

However, I did love the twin dynamic Henry and Mercy had going on. Their relationship was sweet and I loved how loyal they are to each other.

Overall, Spells Trouble was an interesting start in the Sisters of Salem series. If you like fantasy with mystery, this book will be perfect for you!
