Cello prodigy Jenny has one goal: to get into a prestigious music conservatory. When she meets mysterious, handsome Jaewoo in her uncle’s Los Angeles karaoke bar, it’s clear he’s the kind of boy who would uproot her careful plans. But in a moment of spontaneity, she allows him to pull her out of her comfort zone for one unforgettable night of adventure…before he disappears without a word.
Three months later, when Jenny and her mother arrive in South Korea to take care of her ailing grandmother, she’s shocked to discover that Jaewoo is a student at the same elite arts academy where she’s enrolled for the semester. And he’s not just any student. He’s a member of one of the biggest K-pop bands in the world—and he’s strictly forbidden from dating.
When a relationship means throwing Jenny’s life off the path she’s spent years mapping out, she’ll have to decide once and for all just how much she’s willing to risk for love.

At her uncle's karaoke bar, Jenny unexpectedly meets Jaewoo who she spends the night exploring Los Angeles with but then disappears without a trace. Unexpected news about Jenny's grandma brings her and her mom to South Korea where she enters an art academy in Seoul.
Unlike some of the kids at my school, I never could get into K-pop, or any pop, really. A playlist of my life would include Bach, Haydn, and Yo-Yo Ma.
When she arrives at school, she notices that Jaewoo also attends her school. Not only that, but he is also a member of Korea's most popular boy band. And guess what. He's absolutely forbidden to date...
First what it's worth, I say, "I think it's important to take time for yourself, even with responsibilities. You can't be there for other people if you're not first there for yourself.
Star Review: ★★★★☆ (4)
This story made me smile ear to ear. I loved how real Jenny seemed so real with her decisions. Some weren't the best, but after all, she is a teenager so it made her relatable.
And the side characters? They were so enjoyable to read about, especially Sori, Jenny's roommate, and Angela who's from Taiwan (my Taiwanese American heart!). They were so unique each in their own way and added a little something to the story.
Overall, XOXO was another amazing book of this year that I loved. It was a whole Kdrama packed into 352 pages and so much fun. Definitely a read you will enjoy this summer!
