I used to look at my hands with pride. Now all I can think is, "These are the hands that buried my mother."

For Ning, the only thing worse than losing her mother is knowing that it's her own fault. She was the one who unknowingly brewed the poison tea that killed her—the poison tea that now threatens to also take her sister, Shu.

When Ning hears of a competition to find the kingdom's greatest shennong-shi—masters of the ancient and magical art of tea-making—she travels to the imperial city to compete. The winner will receive a favor from the princess, which may be Ning's only chance to save her sister's life.

But between the backstabbing competitors, bloody court politics, and a mysterious (and handsome) boy with a shocking secret, Ning might actually be the one in more danger.

My Thoughts

**Thank you so much to NetGalley and TBR and Beyond Tours for sending me an Advanced Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest review as part of the blog tour!**

Before I begin, I want to say that I will be on a short hiatus for the next month or two. I will return over once summer break starts. See you soon!

Ning is a shennong-shi, a master of teamaking. As a child, she's been learning the art from her mother but her mother dies from a poisonous tea that Ning had brewed. Now Ning's younger sister's fate is also coming close to her mother's.

I used to look at my hands with pride. Now all I can think is, 'These are the hands that buried my mother.'

To make things right, Ning sets off to the imperial court to compete in the competition to find the best shennong-shi in the kingdom. Because if she wins, maybe her sister can be saved.

Grief has a taste, bitter and lingering, but so soft it sometimes disguises itself as sweetness.

But the deeper Ning goes into the competition, the more dangerous it gets. Not only does she have to survive but she also has to find the person that's been making the poisonous teas that have killed her mom.

Human hands make mistakes Ning, but they are the hands the gods gave us. We use them to make amends, to do good things.

Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4)

I loved all the characters but especially Ning. She stayed strong all throughout the novel and I thought she was a smart girl. The care she has for her family, especially her sister, was just so heartwarming.

There's slowburn romance omg. A mysterious boy that Ning meets who's identity did end up getting revealed. Good thing he's not bad.

Overall, A Magic Steeped in Poison was such an immersing story. It was so fun to read especially knowing there's a second book coming soon. Now the second book please.
